Jakarta: On September 6-8 2011, located at the Le Meridien Hotel Jakarta, UNFPA Indonesia conducted the  Workshop on Development of Advocacy and Communication Strategy for the 8th Country Programme. The Workshop aimed to develop advocacy and media strategies for UNFPA Indonesia; building on policy supports and creating public opinion that supports and strengthen UNFPA in addressing pertinent issues of the 8th Country Programme. Besides the Country Office staffs, the three-day workshop was also attended by representatives from UNFPA working partners such as partner ministries, civil society organizations, development agencies, media partners, and UNFPA’s own Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) members.

 

During the workshop, participants were given a chance to observed and learned from two international resource persons: advocacy expert Mr. Najib Assifi and UNFPA Regional Media Advisor Mr. William Ryan. Four national resource persons – Prof. Dr. Firman Lubis from Yayasan Kusuma Buana, Prof. Sri Moertiningsih Adioetomo from Universitas Indonesia’s Demographic Institute, Dr. Kristi Poerwandari from Universitas Indonesia’s Women Study Center, and Ms. Maria Hartiningsih from Kompas Daily Newspaper – participated and shared their expertise in each of their respective field.

 

Towards the end of the workshop, participants not only gained a thorough understanding on the role of advocacy and media in support of 8th CP issues but also developed strategies on advocating and communicating the 8th Country Programme components.
