Jakarta - On Monday September 26 2011, UNFPA and the Government of Indonesia (GOI) signed the Letter of Intent (LoI) and the 2011 Annual Work Plan (AWP) for the UNFPA-GOI 8th Country Programme 2011-2015. Four head of districts selected for the 8th CP’s pilot initiatives – Nias, South Nias, Mamasa, and North Mamuju – along with UNFPA Representative Mr. Jose Ferraris and Ibu Nina Sardjunani from Bappenas, participated in the signing ceremony. The signing marked the beginning of the partnership and also the start of the first year from the 5-year cycle of the 8th Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP).The 8th CPAP itself was signed earlier in February 2011.

 

Ten districts in North Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, Papua and West Papua provinces were chosen for the 8th Country Programme’s pilot inititatives. Six districts already signed the LoI and the AWPs earlier in June 2011, and the September’s signing ceremony is the second and last installment of the 2011 AWPs signing for the last four districts.

 

The ceremony was also attended by officials from the four districts, North Sumatra and West Sulawesi provinces, ministries, development planning agencies, other key programme partners, and UNFPA staff. Mr. Jose Ferraris and Ibu Nina Sardjunani, representing UNFPA and Bappenas respectively, gave remarks and brief programme introduction for attendants regarding the 8th CP and its implementation in each district.

 

The signing ceremony itself was held in collaboration with the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), hosted at the Le Meridien Hotel Jakarta. Following up the signing ceremony, the 2nd Batch of UNFPA Induction will be held the following day at Hotel Millenia, Jakarta.
