BACKGROUND

There are 66 million young people aged 10 - 24 in Indonesia, accounting for one third of the population, yet often the opportunities for youth to engage politically, economically and socially are low or non-existent.

The engagement and participation of youth is essential to achieve sustainable human development. The next 20 years offer a unique opportunity for a demographic dividend that will accelerate sustainable economic growth and development in Indonesia.  However, Indonesia will not be able to harness these benefits if it does not empower, support, educate and create employment for the young people today.

At the event, UNFPA Indonesia will also launch a publication entitled “Realizing Young People’s Potentials: The Path to a Brighter Future”, which covers 32 inspiring stories of Indonesian youth leaders.
